Memories of Holdenshire: A Starter Adventure
Memories of Holdenshire is a 100-page starter adventure which takes you from level 1-3, gently introducing you to some of the new Level Up concepts as you go. It was written specially for Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition by Andrew Engelbrite, Sen.H.H.S, and Savannah Broadway.
With this adventure, we decided to target it at folks who already know how to play 5E and who are interested in what Level Up has to offer. What that means is that you don’t actually need a Level Up core rulebook to play it. As long as you know how to play 5E, anything new you need to know is contained in the adventure.

The adventure doesn’t introduce everything new, of course. But it does explain the following:
How skills work in Level Up
Initiative checks
Basic combat maneuvers
Mounted combat and vehicles
Journeys, Supply, and Exploration Challenges
A brief intro to item materials and repairing items
New conditions (including fatigue and strife)
A selection of new magic items and monsters
New rules are explained with sidebars as and when you need them. For example, above is a glance at how Supply is introduced, at the point where the party is preparing to undertake a journey.
In the next image, you can see how initiative is introduced. While you probably know how initiative works in 5E, this sidebar tells you how to do it in Level Up.
This approach runs through the adventure, ensuring that at all times you have all the information you need. If you want to dip your toe in and try out some of Level Up’s innovations, this adventure is ideal for that purpose.
We’ve also been sure to include a journey, so that you can try out our new journey rules. The exploration pillar has been greatly expanded in Level Up, and we can’t wait for you folks to see it!
The adventure will be available in PDF and softcover format as part of the Kickstarter which launches next week. At the lowest tier, you can pick up the adventure without having to invest in the hardcover books. However, if you do pledge for the hardcover books, we will throw the adventure in for free.
