Level Up Gateway December Dev Update

It’s the last month of 2024 and we are ready to start the first public testing of Level Up Gateway!

In the last month we worked mainly on two things: overhauling items to better adhere to Level Up’s item properties system, and support for smaller screen devices.

Item Properties

Items have been overhauled to use Level Up’s item properties more directly and to support creating custom items that use those properties.

Items now list their properties along with options like which hand a weapon is held in for dual wielding.

You can also edit existing items or create completely new ones. The item editor allows you to add and edit properties on the item.

Weapons have additional choices for damage dice, bonuses and damage types.

Armors, in addition to properties can have additional bonuses from stats which can have maximum values. And when creating a new armor there is an option to simply select the material to add all default properties for the relevant material.

And we’ve included the option to pick from all the item images on the platform when creating or editing an item.

Smaller Screen Support

Support for mobile devices has come a long way. There are still some rougher edges and edge cases that need to be addressed but the character sheet and character creation pages have been adjusted to fit smaller screens. We also added a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen for phones:

We’ll be making adjustments to smaller screen support as we go and from feedback.

Kickstarter Backer Preview

Level Up Gateway was a stretch goal in the original Level Up Kickstarter in 2021. It’s been a long time coming, but backers of that Kickstarter will be receiving invites to preview Gateway very soon. We are very excited to let people start exploring Gateway to see what it can do and to hear your feedback and how it can be improved! Keep in mind though that this is an alpha test, there will be mistakes in the rules, bugs and missing features. We ask that anyone testing the Gateway for their games be ready to cross-reference the rule book and report discrepancies and be aware that there may be downtime.

If you are a Kickstarter backer you will receive an invite code via email which you can use at https://levelupgateway.com/authentication/register to create an account. Once you have registered an account you will receive a second email containing 6 invite codes for your party members.
