Character Origins: Backgrounds
Backgrounds in Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition (Kickstarter live now!) form part of your Origin, which consists of heritage, culture, background, and destiny. They fulfill the same role as in O5E, but they work slightly differently. Below is an example background!
As you can see, your background grants your ability score bonuses, proficiencies, and a feature. Each also contains tables for connections and mementos which are used to help flesh out your place in the world. You can roll on these tables, or you can choose connections and mementos of your own.
The full background list in the core rules is: Acolyte, Artisan, Charlatan, Criminal, Cultist, Entertainer, Exile, Farmer, Folk Hero, Gambler, Guard, Guildmember, Hermit, Marauder, Noble, Outlander, Sage, Sailor, Soldier, Trader, and Urchin.
